Writing A Prairie Christmas

By Cindy Myskiw

First off, I want to explain why I wrote the movie in the first place. I come from a long line of movie watching at Christmas. I mean the real Classics like: White Christmas, It's a Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34 St., ETC. Also from a time when the Lawrence Welk Show used to be on and would have their wonderful Christmas episode. Which had singing and dancing and all the things I love.

After watching what was supposed to be a Christmas Special on Netflix, I thought to myself OMG, that was a Christmas Special. To me it was so dark and not at all what I considered a Christmas Special.

So off I went to my office and sat down and wrote a little story about Love, Friendship, Christmas Carole's and what just gave you a warm feeling all over.

I talked to my friends and they all loved the idea of making this little film. So 2 years later after quite a few rewrites I put together my Cast and Crew. And went about creating a Short Film Called “A Prairie Christmas”.

I wrote, Directed and Acted in this production. It brought home everything I thought a Christmas Special was all about. My friends were amazing and totally volunteered all their time and energy to helping me bring birth to my little writing child.

This is what Christmas is all about. Helping, volunteering and creating some memories that will last a life time together. I will forever love each of them for helping me with this project. In particular my cinematographer because he added the realism to the film for me. A week before shooting we got a real snow storm. I quickly called him up and told him to get his butt outside and get some real snow storm footage for the film. Which to my ever loving surprise and gratitude he did. Though he was cursing me as he filmed the real storm and froze to get some footage for my baby. So when you have a great cast and crew of people that are willing to do anything for the craft it is amazing what you can create. So with much gratitude to all of them I hope you will watch and enjoy our little project which is available on my YouTube Channel.

Til then, Merry Christmas, Blessings and Love to the World and may 2020 bring much wonders to your world.
